Underground Network Help

Quick guides to posting, media uploads, pasted links, and sharing. Choose a topic to jump to its guide.

Getting started

Use the post composer to write a message, add media, or paste a link. Before posting, choose who can see it using the available audience controls. Public posts may be eligible for an external share link; private posts are not.

The globe above the sidebar calendar helps you explore venues. Rotate it, then click a location or venue marker to open the Venues map at that spot. On the Venues page, it updates the map without leaving the page. The calendar's + control opens the event form, including on the Venues page.

Create a post

  1. Write your message in the post composer.
  2. Optionally attach media or paste a link to create a preview.
  3. Choose the audience and review your post before selecting Post.

You can use %map(location)% in a post to look up a location and insert a map showing it. For example, putting an address inside the parentheses maps that address. You can also use coordinates or other location text the lookup recognizes. For venue maps, both %map(!venue name)% and %vmap(venue name)% are supported, so you can use whichever form you prefer. Both use the same venue-name lookup as the main search box. The venue must be publicly visible and have a usable location.

Search symbols and keywords

In the main search box, start with one of these symbols to choose what you are searching for:

  • @ followed by a name prefix searches for people. Example: @sam.
  • # followed by a hashtag finds posts tagged with that keyword. Example: #LiveMusic.
  • ! followed by a place name prefix searches for venues. Example: !Blue.
  • Without a prefix, the search looks for general posts. Example: live music.

Hashtags can contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores, but no spaces. Use a new # for each separate tag. For example, #LiveMusic and #Local_Venues are recognized as tags. In this search box, ! searches venues; inside a post's %map(... )% keyword, ! selects a venue for its map.

Upload media

Upload only content you created or have permission to use. The current supported formats and per-file limits are:

  • Video: MP4, MOV, or WebM; up to 500 MB and 15 minutes.
  • Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV, or OGG; up to 50 MB.
  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, or WebP; up to 10 MB and 12,000 pixels per dimension.

Uploads are checked before they are attached. A file that is damaged, unreadable, or over the applicable limit will be rejected. Uploaded media is displayed with its post and follows that post's access permissions.

Share a post outside Underground Network

The Share control offers different options for your eligible public posts:

  • Audio: choose a track to create an MP4 visualizer with its original attached audio. The resulting link is for that video, not a copy of the entire post.
  • Uploaded video: share a public post link or download/share the existing video file; the video is not converted.
  • Text and images: copy or share a link to a public post. Eligible uploaded images appear with the post.

Sharing is not available for private, removed, venue, or otherwise ineligible posts. Third-party embeds or media that cannot be verified as an eligible Underground Network upload are blocked from this sharing flow.

A shared post link shows the current post while it remains available and public; it is not a permanent snapshot. If the post or an ancestor becomes private or is removed, its public link and attached media stop being available. A recipient may still keep a file they already downloaded or copied elsewhere.

Privacy, permissions, and sharing

Choose your audience carefully. A public post may be viewed and shared outside the app. A recipient can make a separate copy that Underground Network cannot later remove.

You retain responsibility for the content you upload and must have the rights or permission needed to share it. Sharing a public post does not by itself grant Underground Network permission to use member content in official marketing. For more, read the Community Guidelines.

This guide describes current app behavior and may change as features develop. If an upload or preview does not work, check the file type, size, and link first, then try again.
